OKX Environments And Common Errors
Use this article when connecting OKX spot or USDT perpetual trading.
If you still need an OKX account, use the SteadyEdge OKX partner link .
Required choices
- Choose main for a production OKX key or demo for demo trading.
- Choose the API region used to create the key: global or eea .
- Enter the API key, secret, and API passphrase. The passphrase is a separate
credential and cannot be recovered from the key or secret.
- Choose Spot or Futures. Stored charts and backtests always use shared mainnet
history even when the account is demo.
Permissions
Use a trading key with read access and order permission. Do not grant withdrawal permission. SteadyEdge never returns or logs the secret, passphrase, or complete API key.
Common errors
- A missing or mistyped passphrase usually causes signature/authentication
failure.
- A Global key used against EEA, or the reverse, uses the wrong API host.
- Demo credentials fail when Main is selected.
- A Spot/Futures mismatch can validate one account area but fail order or
balance requests.
- If a mainnet opening order fails, revalidate the account and verify its
trading permission, product, region, and IP allowlist.
See the official OKX API documentation for current key and demo-trading requirements.
